Entourage: The Movie
Well being that I’m a 25 year old male who grew up loving to have a good time with my friends, the HBO series Entourage definitely spoke to me. I mean imagine being able to become one of the most popular actors in the world and having your three best friends along for the ride. Sounds incredible.
The movie was written and directed by Doug Ellin. It starred the same cast from the show, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Conolly, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Dillon, and Jeremy Piven. This movie also has a ton of cameos.
This movie takes place after the end of the show’s eight season run. After Adrian Grenier’s character, Vincent Chase’s brief attempt at marriage, we met back up with the boys as they are on the way to a boat party Vince is throwing. Eric, known as E and played by Kevin Connolly, is expecting a child with Sloan and still managing Vince. Turtle, played by Jerry Ferrara, is now a multi-millionaire because of his tequila company. Johnny Chase, also known as Drama and played by Kevin Dillon, is still a struggling actor trying to find his role in Hollywood since his animated show has just been cancelled. Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven, is back in Los Angeles and now head of a studio.
The movie circles around these storylines and most of them become intertwined when Ari tells Vince he wants him to star in his first project as head of studio. Vince is excited for the movie however when he tells Ari he will only star in it if he gets to direct. Ari agrees, so Vince and E direct and produce a movie. The story skips eight months into future with a Pierce Morgan Special trying to reveal the disaster known as Hyde, Vince’s new movie. With the boys over budget and asking for more, Ari is forced to go to Texas and beg for funding from Larsen McCredle, a oil billionaire played by Billy Bob Thornton. This presents a problem when Larsen request that his son Travis, played by Haley Joel Osment, must accompany Ari back to L.A. in order to help understand what his money is going to. Travis starts creating problems after a viewing party. With Travis making demands that must be met in order to get more funding, Ari and the Entourage must figure out how to solve this problem. Turtle tries to court UFC Fighter Rhonda Rousey, while Drama tries to find his place in Hollywood. Will Vincent be able to finish his directorial debut? Can the guys figure a way out of this situation? More importantly, how will the series ultimately in?
Since this is one of my favorite television series of all-time, I tried not to be biased in this review. The story is decently entertaining and littered with cameos. I’m not going to lie it definitely helps to have seen the show and be able to understand the characters. There are some great comedic moments through out. I am going to give this one a three out of five stars. I was disappointed overall in the story. I felt with the amount of time they had to come up with something it could have been better. The movie is a fun watch that will entertain any audience. Obviously not recommended for children though. It was great to see the Entourage take on one final ride and I did enjoy where they ended it.
