The World’s End
This morning’s movie was a Edgar Wright directed film. It starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
The World’s End is the story of a group of friends who have reunited to attempt to take on the Golden Mile, a pub crawl in their hometown involving 12 bars. The movie is set in a present day town outside of London. They return to their hometown where it doesn’t seem like anything has changed but to them it feels different. When the group realizes they might not survive the night, making it to the last bar on the list should not be a top priority.
The movie begins with Gary King, played by Simon Pegg, retelling a story from the gang’s glory days in the early 90’s. He mentions the fact that the last time they tried the Golden Mile the group was unsuccessful. Now 20 years later, Gary has gathered the group back together in an attempt to return to relive the old days which it seems his character has never left. The group begins their night out and everything seems to be going normal. However once the friends make it a couple bars in, Gary gets in a bathroom fight that reveals a troubling secret that changes the course of the night. The group now must continue the pub crawl while fighting to save mankind. Will the group be able to survive the night? Can they save humanity at the same time? More importantly will they finish the Golden Mile?
I’m always a fan of an Edgar Wright film. I really like some of the underlying messages in this film but it is not my favorite of his by any means. When it is up against Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, how can it be. Those two are classics. The World’s End is an entertaining film with some cool action. One of those movies that makes you want to relive the good ole crazy nights with your high school or college buddies. I give it three and a half out of five stars. If you are looking for a good action/comedy to watch and fill an afternoon this 109 minute feature is a good choice.
