Anacondas the Sequel: Different Country, Different Jungle, Same Big Ass Problem

This morning the sequel to Anaconda was the movie I watched. I’m sure you as a reader will begin to wonder, why or how does he choose these movies. I don’t have a process I check and see what’s on. Sometimes I will pick on but I enjoy good stories so I’m always watching a variety of films.

Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid is a sequel to the classic 1997 Anaconda movie starring Jennifer Lopez, John Voight, and Ice Cube. This sequel does not have quite the star studded cast but it does have the intense action. In this Dwight Little directed film, a group is hunted by a group of very large slithery bastards while on their quest to find a flower called the Blood Orchid that is believed to have super healing powers.

The movie begins in a board room meeting talking about the importance of the Blood Orchid and how it can change the history of medicine and mankind. This flower is believed to only bloom every seven years and with the world always changing if they miss on it now there is no guarantee it will be there in future. The group gets funding to go on a expedition and away to the jungle of Borneo they go. When they arrive in Borneo it is the rainy season and with all the charter boats no going up river for a couple weeks the group is forced to hire a couple locals to guide their journey. With the Blood Orchid only in bloom for another week, will the group make it in time?

When water levels along the river start to rise and seemingly imminent danger around every bend, the group’s lead scientist, Dr. Jack Byron played by Matt Marsden, puts them in more danger when he offers the captain of the boat, Bill Johnson played by Johnny Messner, extra funds to continue on. An unfortunate event happens, leaving the group stranded and up against unsurmountable odds.  The group must fight on no longer to find the Blood Orchid just to survive the jungle. When Dr. Jack Bryon puts the group in trouble again and the struggle to survive becomes even more complicated once the group discovers that it is anaconda mating season and a giant snake orgy could exist around every corner. Will the group find the Blood Orchid? Can they survive the terrors of the jungle?

At not too long a movie, Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid comes in at around 97 minutes. This movies is full of suspenseful and skin chilling moments as anacondas lurk around what seems like every turn. This film has some intense moments, it is consider an action/horror movie. I can agree with that it’s not too terribly scary depending on your fear of snakes I guess that is. I enjoy this movie but overall I give it three out of five stars. This movie doesn’t have the best acting in the world but it is an entertaining adventure in Southeast Asia where the jungle is just as beautiful as it is deadly. I recommend this for at least a one time watch as the thrill goes away once you know when the snakes are coming.
