Blade: The Daywalker

Tonight the original Blade from 1998 was on the menu.

It was directed by Stephen Norrington and written by David S. Goyer. Starring Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, and Stephen Dorff.

Blade took place in a world where vampires roam the earth, existing in the shadows. Blade, played by Wesley Snipes, was a half-human and half-vampire with all the strengths and only one weakness…the thirst for blood. I recommend this movie for anyone into the action/horror genres. While not technically a scary movie, anything with blood sucking vampires has a horror aspect to it. Blade was born a with his vampire traits as his pregant mother was bitten and then dies during his childbirth. Blade was mentored and now is teamed up with Whistler, an older man who has been hunting vampires ever since one killed his family.

The movie begins with an adrenaline packed opening scene in which Blade demonstrates why he is a figure the vampires fear. I believe that Blade fights not to protect the human races as much as he does because of his hatred for the blood suckers. He shows weakness for humanity at points in the film which makes the audience want him to succeed even more. Although he protects them at times, Blade still needs human blood to survive. The question throughout is, will Blade in the long run be able to overcome his weaknesses and succeed in his fight to stop the Vampires from summoning La Magra otherwise known as the Blood God? That’s right no spoilers in these reviews. We at Snacks Cinema believe in the reader or viewer watching movies to the end. After all is that the point, to be entertained throughout.

Overall, I liked this movie it had a good flowing story with action packed scenes sprinkled throughout. I recommend this movie for anyone looking to be entertained with story of the struggle against evil and a story in which that evil gets its ass kicked by Mr. Snipes. The movie is not too long at just around two hours. Growing up with as a fan of the vampire hunter I give the movie a four out of five on the scale. I looking for a new method of ratings but until then keeping it classic with the stars.

I should mention that this movie has some sequels, Blade II and Blade Trinity. Both are equally if not more entertaining than the original as the action and special effects keep getting better. That being said Wesley Snipes is a badass throughout the series.

I always enjoyed quoting movies with my friends growing up so I’m ending these posts with one of my favorite quotes from each movie I review.

“Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.” – Blade
